"An Introduction to My Art Journey as a native artist"

boozhoo, Wotziye, allianchu; my name is Zoey Young, and I am a native artist.

I am a multifaceted artist currently residing in Thornberry who embodies a rich tapestry of cultural and artistic heritage.

I've been surrounded by creativity from a young age and deeply influenced by my family's artistic endeavors. My mother's artwork has been one of my biggest inspirations while growing up, as have my father's photography, editing, animation, and her grandmother's nurturing environment.

These influences helped me grow into a wonderful artist. I love my grandma and my family with all my heart.

My artistry is deeply rooted in my Chipewyan and Quechuan Bolivian heritage, which she passionately explores through various mediums, including painting, sewing, and mixed media.

My creative process is spontaneous and inspired. It often begins with a sudden burst of inspiration that I quickly scribble down, later revisiting and transforming into a final piece.

I find solace and inspiration in nature, turning to the outdoors and new experiences to fuel my creativity.

My artistic journey is a testament to my natural talent and the rich, highly supportive environment my family provides.

I have contributed to my Community by creating my Thunderbird mural at my local high school. Norval Morrisseau inspired my mural, which emphasizes the importance of Community and strengths. I hope it can convey that message—it's essential and mighty. I hope I can convey those Messages through my art.

I have helped on projects like "The Adventures of Nanabushu" that

It is one of the first fully Ojibwe dubbed short films, and I had so much fun helping on that project.

I'll be honest. I used to draw a lot of anime and cartoons, but in recent years, I've been focusing on my cultural roots and activism and trying to help people as much as I can as an artist. So, I have been focusing on issues such as MMIW, every child matters, etc.

My journey as a teacher assistant (TA) at my former high school involved education and helping my Community. I'm so grateful for this opportunity. I wouldn't be able to do any of this if it wasn't for my Amazing former art teacher, Ms. Teaug (Mrs. Signy Teaug), who not only understands my commitment to my artistic and cultural heritage but has also helped me with my aspirations to become an art teacher within the public school system.

My wonderful experience as a TA has been a big stepping stone towards my goal of inspiring and educating future generations in the arts.

My engagement with the inPath program has significantly enriched my artistic Knowledge, providing valuable opportunities to explore and refine my storytelling through illustrations and sewing. In this program, I have found a supportive community and resources that have allowed me to blend traditional techniques with her unique visions, creating wearable art that narrates stories of her culture and personal experiences. Through inPath, she gains insights into the business aspects of art, learning to navigate social media and promotional strategies,

all while preparing to inspire future generations as an art teacher.

As I step into the future, Zoey aspires to become an art teacher, sharing her passion and encouraging others to find joy in art. She is expanding my skills into sculpture and mural creation, seeking to make a more significant impact with my work.

With guidance from mentors Melanie Garcia and Marc Keugle, I am exploring the business side of art and aiming to master social media.

My journey involves exploration, growth, and a deep connection to my roots. My work showcases my immense talent and serves as a bridge, connecting viewers to the rich narratives and emotions embedded in my cultural heritage.
